Our Veterinarians

Dr. Joseph A. May is the owner and senior DVM at King's Mountain Animal Clinic. He attended Virginia Tech and graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1973.

He attended the University of Georgia and graduated with honors in 1976. He then lived in Maryland and worked for a year in a 4 Doctor mixed animal practice.

Dr. May established his own practice, King's Mountain Animal Clinic, in Collinsville Virginia on June 13th 1977.

Brantley Paul Smith

Dr. May enjoys both medicine and surgery. He performs most of the more advanced surgeries at our hospital, such as cruciate repairs, feline thyroid surgery and ear trims.

Dr. May especially enjoys spending time with his family. He is pictured here with his Grandson Brantly.

 

 


Dr. Catherine DeMottDr. Catherine DeMott has been with our clinic since the winter of 1996. She was a pre-vet at Va. Tech and earned her B.S. in biology and also a Member of Charter class at VA-MD regional College of Veterinary Medicine graduating in 1984. She worked in Richmond at a 3 Doctor small animal practice for 10 years and a small animal practice in Lynchburg for a year.  Dr. DeMott has an interest in exotic animals such as birds, rabbits, snakes and iguanas. She is pictured here with one of our "in house" cats, Leroy who is a blood donor when we need one.



Dr. Hiedi Orr-Cooley

Heidi and Carmen in the SnowDr. Hiedi Orr-Cooley has been with us since June 2000 . She came to us as Dr. Hiedi Orr and is now Dr. Hiedi Orr-Cooley.

She was an undergrad at West Virginia University and graduated with a B.A. in Biology in 1996. She went to Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in May of 2000. We are very happy to have her at our clinic.

She participates in school programs promoting animal care and higher education.



Dr. Nancy Brubaker

Dr. Nancy Brubaker joined our family at King's Mountain Animal Clinic in 2002.

Dr. Brubaker graduated from Virginia- Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999.  She did her under graduate work at Ferrum College and earned a double major in chemistry and professional science in 1994.

She was an Associate Veterinarian from 1999 until 2002 at the Pet Clinic of Rocky Mount in Virginia.  She also taught as an Adjunct Professor and guest speaker at Ferrum College in 2000 and 2001.

Dr. Brubaker resides in Rocky Mount with her husband, two daughters, two dogs and two cats.

She enjoys  horseback riding, scrapbooking and helping her community as time allows.


Dr. Christa Clark and Dr. Joanne Douglas are also veterinarians at our clinic on part time basis. They live a good distance away but will travel to come to work for us when we need them.

Licensed Veterinary Technician 

Deborah Akers joined us in the summer of 2006.  She lives in Snow Creek with her husband, two boys, dog, cat, and guinea pig.  Deborah graduated from Blue Ridge Community College  in 2003.  She is continuing her studies in anesthesia and pain management to provide the best care and ensure the most comfort possible for our patients. 

She is a member of Glade Hill Baptist church and enjoys singing and spending time with her family.
